Macchiarel­la gets four goals to lead Dutchmen to win

Guilderlan­d boys' lacrosse team upended Shenendeho­wa 9-7 in a closely contested Suburban Council game Saturday in Guilderlan­d.

Shenendeho­wa took a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter, only to see the Dutchmen fight back to even the score at 5 heading into halftime.

The Dutchmen built their advantage after the break, using strong defense and opportunis­tic offense to outscore the Plainsmen 2-1 in each of the remaining quarters.

Tommy Tysinski added two goals and an assist for the Dutchmen.

Nate Wolfe and Freddy Hicks each scored twice for Shenendeho­wa, and Mason Carroll added a goal and two assists for the Plainsmen.

More boys' lacrosse: Evan Diligent had two goals and an assist, Tyler Novak had 22 saves and Bethlehem topped Saratoga 9-7 in a Suburban Council matchup. Danny Johnson added two goals for the Eagles. Tobey Diulio led the Blue Streaks with two goals and an assist, and Huck Patton added two goals . ... Geno DeRubertis had three goals and three assists to lead Ballston Spa over CBA 12-6 in a Suburban Council matchup. Matt King added two goals and two assists for the Scotties, and Sean Dwyer had three goals. Dom Zichelli stopped 17 shots in the cage for Ballston Spa. Logan Murphy and Shea Hogan each had a pair of goals for the Brothers.

Softball: Senior Sydney Speanburg put in a strong performanc­e both in the circle and at the plate as Albany trounced Cohoes 12-0 in a nonleague contest. Speanburg pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out four while walking none. At the plate, she finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Teammate Lucy Lembo went 4-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored. … Reegan Mullen connected on a grand slam, drove in six runs and Greenwich claimed the championsh­ip of the Maple Hill Tournament 10-0 over host Maple Hill. Tournament MVP Lily McCauliffe of Greenwich pitched a one-hitter in the first round against Greenville, striking out 12 in a 7-1 victory. Emma Dugan finished 3-for-6 with three RBIs in Maple Hill’s opening-round 18-2 victory over Amsterdam. Mullen and Dugan joined Greenville’s Emma Haller and Amsterdam’s Shelby Lamont on the All-Tournament team.

Baseball: Sophomore Nicholas Chicaway pitched a five-hit shutout as Cohoes took down Cobleskill 5-0 in a Colonial Council clash. Chicaway struck out 11 in the victory. Michael Melendez finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Cobleskill. … Sophomore Geneo Savoca Jr. went the distance in Albany Academy's 3-0 nonleague shutout over Niskayuna. Savoca gave up four hits, no walks and struck out seven. Senior Andrew Pugliese finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases for the Cadets. Sam Booth had two hits for the Silver Warriors.
