AVERILL PARK

— Carole Quinn passed away on June 7, 2022, at the age of 79.

She was the oldest of nine children born to Clifford and Zillah Herrington of Johnsonville. After graduating from Hoosic Valley Central School, she attended Cortland College. Carole married her husband, Steve Wicks, on December 31, 1994.

Carole had a sharp wit and engaging laugh. Being raised on a dairy farm, she knew the value of hard work and had a love of the land and animals, particularly horses. The only thing that surpassed that love was the love for her family. She had two sons, Mark and Matt Quinn and two stepchildren, Michael Wicks and Tina Schoonmaker. Both sons raced cars regularly at Lebanon Valley Speedway. She would not miss a race and eventually drove the pace car for years leading them out for their starting laps. She was, with no doubt, their biggest fan.

Carole held many jobs over the years including working at restaurants, cooking at 4H camp, the post office as well as driving a school bus just as her father had. She worked side by side with Steve at Steve’s Automotive in West Sand Lake until it was sold. She made many lifelong friends in all of these positions throughout her life.

Her farm, Sunrise Hill Farm in Averill Park, was her last home before she and Steve started traveling to Florida for the winter months in their RV with their dog Willy. It was at that farm that she taught her children and grandchildren all about her love for animals, riding lessons, gardening and what chores actually are.

Carole was predeceased by both of her parents, sister, Janet Moran; and brother, Calvin J. Herrington. She is survived by her husband, Steve; and her sons and stepchildren, Mark (Cindy) Quinn, Matt (Sheri) Quinn, Tina Schoonmaker and Michael (Christina) Wicks. She also leaves her siblings, Darlyne (Bernie) Przelski, David (Judy) Herrington, Anita (Earl) Mullen, Helen (Rick) Dansereau, Randy (Bill) Herrington and Paul (Lisa) Herrington. Carole had seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren that will miss her very much. Carole’s first husband of twelve years, father to her sons and who remained a good friend, Clifford Quinn, resides in Titusville, Fla.

Services will be held for the family on Monday, June 13, in the cemetery. The family will be planning a celebration of life for friends in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Hoag’s Corner Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 90, East Nassau, NY, 12062 or the Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY, 12205.
