Ahearn, John H. Jr.
WATERFORD — John H. Ahearn Jr., 75 of 4th St., passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at Samaritan Hospital. Raised in Waterford, he is the son of the late John H. Ahearn Sr. and Ethyl Vandervoort Ahearn.
Jack had owned and operated the former Ahearn’s Hideaway in Waterford. He had also been employed at the Grand Union Warehouse for 28 years, retiring in 1995. Prior to that he worked at Knowles Atomic Power Lab. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
Jack was a member of the Lansingburgh Veteran’s Club, the American Legion, Charles J. Brady Post 235, the VFW on Martha’s Vineyard, Troy Stag Rod & Gun Club, the Green Island Rod & Gun Club and the Pleasantdale Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and bike riding.
Survivors include his wife, Susan L. Casuras Ahearn; his son, Scott P. Ahearn (Jill) of Waterford; his stepsons, Stephen M. Downey of Niskayuna, and Jason R. Downey of Cooperstown. He is the twin brother of James F. Ahearn (Paula) of Cohoes, and is also survived by his brothers, Jerold D. Ahearn (Susan) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jeffery Ahearn (Tracey) of North Carolina. He is predeceased by his sister, Jeanne M. Connery (Ned); five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, and his canine companion, Sophie also survive.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m. prior to the funeral service. It was Jack’s request that those attending wear something related to the Yankees, NY Giants or hunter’s camo.
