UMATILLA, Fla. — Donald E. McCafferty passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at Bayview Center in Eustis, Fla.

Don was born in Troy, N.Y. on April 16, 1933, and was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Horlacher) McCafferty. He graduated from Troy High School in 1951 and married Elizabeth Kositzka and they were married over 60 years. Together they traveled the country in their motorhomes which took them to all 48 states as well as a flight to Hawaii and a cruise to Alaska in their lifetime. In addition to their R-Ving, he enjoyed the camping lifestyle spending nearly 40 years at the same campground in the Adirondack­s.

Don also enjoyed tailgating at Penn State, Army, and Patriots football games with friends for many years and was an avid Yankees fan. He worked for the New York State Division for Youth for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Community, Eustis, Florida, the Eustis Elks Club, and the Twin Lakes Home Owners Associatio­n.

He is survived by nieces, Carol Thompson (Robert), Lori, Kathy and Dawn of Clifton Park, N .Y.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Eustis, Fla. on Tuesday, June 28, at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, N.Y. on Friday, July 1, at the convenienc­e of his family.

He is the beloved husband of Barbara A. Danforth Meyer of Ballston Lake; devoted father of Kenneth F. (Laura) Meyer of Clifton Park, Linda D. (David) Alling of Ballston Lake, Richard B. (Colleen) Meyer, and Kimberly I. Meyer, both of Clifton Park. He was predecease­d by siblings: Kenneth, Louise, Irene, Robert and Edward. He is survived by 10 grandchild­ren, 18 great-grandchild­ren, one great-great-granddaugh­ter, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.

A calling hour will be held from 9 -10 a.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Interment with full military honors will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylervi­lle, N.Y.

Family and friends are invited to gather at The Elks Club in Clifton Park afterwards.

Richard’s past service experience formed his compassion for veterans. He donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to VFW, National Headquarte­rs, 406 W. 34th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111; www.vfw.org.
