GOLD AWARD GIRL SCOUTS
Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York celebrated 20 Gold Award Girl Scouts. The Gold Award is the highest award for high school-age Girl Scouts and capstone of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, earned through a seven-step leadership process. This year’s Gold Award Girl Scouts and a description of their capstone projects follows:
■ Brianna Valenti, East Greenbush, created an online platform to encourage children and adults to use at-home activities designed to stop boredom and reduce stress and anxiety.
■ Emma Jane Andrus, Ballston Lake, created an outreach program at her local middle school to support interest in STEM in partnership with her school’s Society of Women Engineers club.
■ Sarah Mackenzie Walton,
Clifton Park, hosted a free spaghetti dinner for anyone who needed a hot meal. At this dinner she also distributed bags filled with hygiene supplies, comfort items, food and drinks.
■ Madison Slovak, Schodack Landing, identified three monuments in Woodlawn Cemetery in need of restoration and refurbished them.
■ Kathryn Taleporos, Niskayuna, created awareness about human rights violations to create lesson plans and a review packet for the social studies department in her high school to use.
■ Isabella Rose Richards, Delmar, worked with the town historian to research the history of the town and create a 29stop walking tour.
■ Emma Violet Edgar, Glenmont, worked with the Empire State Youth Orchestra to create and record music that honors the Dutch and Native American history of Albany.
■ Skyler Misiazek, Castleton on the Hudson, created two sets of bleachers to be placed by the outdoor track at her school to provide a safe place for all visitors, including the disabled or elderly, to enjoy track events.
■ Destiny Schanz, Albany, designed and built a dog agility course at the Cook Park Dog Park and created informational fliers that are stored at the park to educate families about keeping animals safe.
■ Grace Elizabeth Harting, Latham, partnered with the Pruyn House historic site in Newtonville to clean overgrown nature walking trails, post trail markers to make trails safer and worked with a local arborist to identify trees on the trail.
■ Amelie Jeanne Przedwiecki, Saratoga Springs, collaborated with volunteers to design and plant a Monarch Meadow at Pitney Meadows in Saratoga Springs, transplanting more than 150 seedlings to help bees, hummingbirds and the monarch population to grow.
■ Grace E. Ryan, Albany, distributed bags with books and other goodies to South End Children’s Café campers to increase their reading abilities.
■ Autumn Schanz, Albany, worked to improve outreach programs at Pine Grove United Methodist Church more accessible for people, including building a weatherproof pantry and an accessible walkway. ■ Bridget K. Will, Gloversville, preserved the history of Caughnawaga Cemetery by cleaning and restoring several headstones and created an educational program for the FondaFultonville Middle School on the importance of the town.
■ Ryanne Gordon, Burnt Hills, partnered with the town of Ballston Spa to design and build a new outdoor programming space and built and installed seven benches outside of the library.
■ Brenna M Sambrook, East Greenbush, researched invasive species and their impact on the environment to design a build a boot brush for visitors to the East Greenbush Town Park to clean their shoes of invasive species.
■ Savannah Ross, Whitehall, researched different animal species, designed informational signs and installed them in the Whitehall Recreation Center alongside some bird houses she also designed and built.
■ Alison Szczesny, Clifton Park, made the Kinns Road Park hiking trails accessible, recorded videos of each trail — in both the fall and spring —and uploaded the videos on the town of Clifton Park website.
■ Adriana Drinkdak, Middle Grove, partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County to revitalize and provide ADA accommodation, cleaned the overrun and extra brush growth and created signs and voice recording for visually impaired visitors.
■ Arrianna Stark, Glenville, researched and created a map that identified the invasive species in the Sanders Preserve, built a boot brush station, created a tutorial on how to use it and created a patch program.
