NYC ends Revs’ 10-game streak

New York City FC was awarded a Major League Soccer record three penalty kicks in the first half and beat New England 4-2 on Saturday behind a pair of Valentin Castellano­s goals to stop the Revolution’s 10-game league unbeaten streak.

Castellano­s took over the MLS scoring lead with 12 goals. Gustavo Bou scored twice for the Revolution, who played a man short after Andrew Farrell’s 41st-minute red card.

New England had four wins and six draws since an April 23 loss to D.C. United. The 10-game unbeaten run was one shy the team record set in 2005 and matched in 2019.

Cincinnati 1, New York 1: Brandon Vazquez scored in the 20th minute and FC Cincinnati held on for a draw with the

New York Red Bulls, despite losing two players to red cards in the second half. Vazquez’s ninth goal of the season gave Cincinnati the lead, but Lewis Morgan scored the equalizer for the Red Bulls in the 29th minute on a penalty kick. It was also Morgan’s ninth goal.

San Jose 2, Toronto 2: Jack Skahan scored his first MLS goal in stoppage time to give the San Jose Earthquake­s a tie with Toronto FC. Skahan beat goalkeeper Quentin Westberg in the 92nd minute after an attempted clearance by Ifunanyach­i Achara sent it back into the penalty box.

Austin 3, Atlanta 0: Felipe Martins and Ethan Finlay scored early goals, Sebastian Driussi added his 11th of the season in the second half and Austin FC rolled to a victory that extended Atlanta United’s winless streak to four. Charlotte 4, Nashville 1: Defender Christian Fuchs scored on a first-half penalty kick and Charlotte FC pulled away late for a victory over Nashville SC. Fuchs gave Charlotte the lead for good in the 26th minute with his second goal of the season. Charlotte broke the match open with second-half goals by Karol Swiderski (61st minute), Sergio Ruiz (89th) and Andre Shinyashik­i in the first minute of stoppage time. Hany Mukhtar pulled Nashville within a goal when he scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

Portland 3, Seattle 0: Jaroslaw Niezgoda scored in the 24th minute, Santiago Moreno and Dairon Asprilla connected late in the second half and the Portland Timbers remained unbeaten in their past seven regular-season games in Seattle.

Kansas City 2, Montreal 1: Remi Walter broke a tie in the 63rd minute in Sporting Kansas City’s 1 victory over Montreal. Walter powered through the defense for the winner. Roger Espinoza tied it for Kansas City in the 29th. Romell Quioto opened the scoring for Montreal in the 13th.

Columbus 3, Chicago 2: Substitute Derrick Etienne scored twice in a 12minute span of the second half and Cucho Hernandez delivered the gamewinner in his debut as the Columbus Crew rallied for a victory over the Chicago Fire.
