Shaffer, Doris M.
TROY — Doris M. (Bonesteel) Shaffer, 95, a longtime resident of Brunswick and more recently of Troy, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center following a brief illness.
Doris was the daughter of the late Freeman E. and Florence E. (Keyes) Bonesteel and for over 61 years, the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Shaffer, who predeceased her in 2008.
As a young woman, she worked for several years as a seamstress at the former Marshall Ray and Sons Clothiers in Troy and later the former Cluett, Peabody and Co., also in Troy, prior to her marriage to Ralph. Most recently, she had been a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her husband and raising her children.
Doris was a life member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, served as a Sunday school teacher, served on the Administrative Council, and was president of the Friendly Circle.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Sharleen Shaffer; a daughter, Debra Dutcher; four beloved grandchildren, Megan (Alan), Slade, Shanna (Justin), and Tara (Rhandy); a greatgrandson, Noah; a sister-inlaw, Connie Bonesteel, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her late husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, William, Warren, and Kenneth Bonesteel.
Doris was a loving person to everyone and will truly be missed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, Raymertown, on Monday, July 11, from 4 - 7 p.m. A funeral service for Doris will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Joel Holcomb, pastor of Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Colonie.
