LOUDONVILLE — Karin Schnittger, 95, born Kathrina Astor in Monreal, Germany on June 24, 1927, died on July 7, 2022, in the care of Hospice at the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence.

Karin immigrated to the United States following World War II and lived with family in downstate New York, while planning her future in the new world. Karin learned the English language by listening to the radio and reading newspapers which inspired her lifelong interest in geography and politics. Karin married Ernest Schnittger, a World War II Army veteran, in 1952, and remained a devoted spouse for 55 years until Ernie’s death in 2007. Karin worked as a hairdresser, an inspector at Parker Kalon Corp., as a housekeeper, and then for the Ramapo Central School District once she started her family. Karin and Ernie lived in a house they built together in Suffern, N.Y. until Ernie’s retirement, when they built their second home together, Fox Run on Lake Champlain in Essex, N.Y. The couple later relocated to the Beltrone Senior Living Center in Colonie to be closer to family. Karin enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, observing birds and wildlife, and catching up with good friends over a cup of coffee. Karin strove to impart in her family the importance of clean windows for an unobstructed view of the world and an education that cannot be taken from you.

Karin is survived by her daughter, Debra (William d. 2009) Moseley; her son, Eric (Victoria) Schnittger; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin Van Ort), David and

Ort),

Stacie (Douglas Moscowitz) Moseley, Kristin (Douglas) Skinner, Amy (Brian) Powell, Douglas (Deviji) and Lauren Schnittger; eight great-grandchildren, Douglas (Deanna), Benjamin, Emilee and Jamie Skinner, Michael and Mya File, and Garrett and Jordan Powell; her niece, Hiltrud (Arthur) Dodge and extended family in the United States and Germany.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the care professionals at the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence and Community Hospice.

A private inurnment will be held in the Chatham Rural Cemetery, Chatham.
