What happened to ‘Company You Keep’?

- By Rich Heldenfels

Q: What ever happened to “The Company You Keep”? I was very much enjoying it and poof, I couldn’t find it.

A: The ABC drama starring Milo Ventimiglia was canceled in May 2023 after a single, 10-episode season. Variety noted that the show was a big deal as Ventimiglia’s first series after the end of the acclaimed “This Is Us.” But the newer show did not catch on — not enough company to keep it.

Q: What happened to Charles Barkley’s CNN show?

A: I think you are referring to the terribly titled “King Charles,” a Wednesdaynight program hosted by Gayle King and Charles Barkley. While it looked at current topics, apparently viewers were not looking at the show — except maybe at “Saturday Night Live,” which mocked it recently. “King Charles” reportedly began with low ratings and did not improve.

Some time ago, I read about a movie called “What Happens Later” starring Meg Ryan. What happened? I never saw anything more about it and it didn’t show up in local theaters.

A: The romantic comedy, which Ryan co-wrote and directed along with starring, did make its way into about 1,500 theaters nationwide for its premiere on Nov. 3, 2023, according to Box Office Mojo. Reviews were mixed, box-office returns were poor, and it was out of theaters in about three weeks. Places you can find it now include Prime Video and Vudu.

Q: My husband and I have been watching the series “Homeland” for eight seasons on Showtime. Suddenly it was taken off. Will it come back, or will we never see the ending?

A: The thriller starring Claire Danes ended after eight seasons in 2020 with a finale that included several twists and a flash-forward. While showrunner Alex Gansa did not rule out a return in a 2020 interview with EW.com, he did say, “All of us are happy with where we ended the show (finale) and the series. Another chapter doesn’t feel necessary at the moment.”
