TROY — The Memorial Day parade is returning to Troy this month for the first time since the pandemic, Mayor Carmella Mantello and city officials said.

The parade is scheduled for Memorial Day, May 27, beginning at 1 p.m. It will travel from Knickerbacker Park to Powers Park, ending with a cookout and celebration at Forty-One Sports Bar & Grille on 112th Street.

“We are so excited to be able to bring the Memorial Day Parade back to

Troy to honor our local veterans who have dedicated their lives to protect our freedoms,” Mantello said in a statement. “These events unite our community and build pride in our city.”

Youth activities, such as face painting and balloon animal-making, will be featured at the event, along with recruiting tables. The cookout will be held by Troy fire and police.

Additionally, the parade will feature the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, a Canadian infantry reserve unit from Ontario’s

Niagara region, which participated in the parade for more than 20 years prior to the pandemic.

“From a community standpoint, the parade is an important event that will help remind people to pause and remember the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defending our great nation,” said PJ Higgit, a local veteran and advocate. “Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to live in the most free and democratic country in the world.”
