‘Trump’ role to return

-

Alec Baldwin said he will reprise his impression of President Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live” this upcoming season.

Live from New York, it’s Alec Baldwin as President Trump — again.

In a move that’s sure to inspire some angry late-night tweeting from the commander-in-chief, the actor announced he’ll continue his Trump impression on “Saturday Night Live” this upcoming season.

“I have fun doing it, there’s no doubt about that,” Baldwin said of playing the president on Friday’s “Origins with James Andrew Miller” podcast. “... When the show is good, there is nothing like it. But for me, I think I’m going to do some of the Trump skits, but not a whole lot. Because I also think, and this is critical, there is a lot of fatigue here.”

“SNL” creator and producer Lorne Michaels also chimed in on the podcast, explaining that he only learned Baldwin will once again don the The Donald wig when Baldwin told someone at the U.S. Open he’ll return to the role. “I think there is probably no other actor who is looking to take that and follow Alec,” Michaels told Miller.

The news comes as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, which hands out the U.k.-equivalent of Oscars and Emmys, announced it’s honoring the sketch comedy show with a special award.

The award will be given to Michaels Oct. 4 in Brooklyn.

But not everyone is a fan of Baldwin’s performance as president. Trump has been a frequent critic, tweeting in 2016, “Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me. Time to retire the boring and unfunny show. Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks.”

Actor Adam Driver is set to host when the NBC show’s 44th season kicks off Sept. 29, and Kanye West will perform.

The show will return with just one new cast member: Ego Nwodim ,a veteran of the UCB Theater in Los Angeles who has appeared on shows like “2 Broke Girls” and the “Law & Order True Crime” mini-series, will join “SNL.”
