Ballston Spa woman accused in runway drive
A Ballston Spa woman was arrested and charged with trespassing Friday at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey after police say she tailgated an authorized vehicle through a security gate and drove across runways.
Ciara Schultz, 31, abandoned her car and ran away before she was arrested in the nearby town of Moonachie, according to police with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The breach was the “result of a woman in an unauthorized vehicle tailgating an authorized vehicle through a security gate before the guard could stop the unauthorized vehicle,” Port Authority police said.
“There were no planes on the runways at the time her vehicle crossed the airstrips,” the statement said.
Police said they were investigating the incident to “determine how to best prevent recurrence,” the release said.
Schultz’s alleged trespass had no impact on flights at the airport, officials said.
Schultz was charged with criminal trespassing and unlicensed entry, disorderly conduct and improper behavior and obstructing administration of law/other government function, police said.
She was released to New Bridge Medical Center for evaluation, they said.
