HOOSICK FALLS — Donald Gilbert, 79, passed away on September 20, 2018, in Great Barrington, Mass. He was the husband of the late Dawn (Baker) Gilbert who died in 2014.

Donald was born on May 2, 1939, in Syracuse, son of the late Edgar D. and Doris (Rice) Gilbert. He graduated from Onondaga Valley High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1960-1964. Donald was formerly employed at Baker’s Nursery for many years and later at True Value Hardware both in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include his children, Tracy (Dave) Wheatley of Watervliet and son Erik (Kristen) Gilbert of Hoosick Falls; his grandchildren, Ben Wheatley, Theodore James Gilbert, Elijah Joseph Gilbert and Samantha Gildea; brother George Gilbert of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Monday, September 24, at 12:00 p.m. in the Hoosick Baptist Church on South Street in Hoosick. Burial will follow the service in the West Hoosick Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.

Memorial contributions maybe made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. floor of the VA Hospital in Albany for providing the best care to Richard.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 23, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9 in Clifton Park. Burial will be private in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
