WATERVLIET — Thomas Patrick Callahan Sr., 94, of Third Avenue in Port Schuyler, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with his family at his side. Born and raised in Troy, he was the son of the late John H. and Catherine Whelan Callahan. He was a 1941 graduate of Lasalle Institute in Troy. Tom was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He worked briefly for G.E. in Schenectad­y and the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island. He completed the Watervliet Arsenal Apprentice Program and was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal for 28 years as an industrial specialist in the Procuremen­t Department before retiring in 1976. He later worked for 10 years at Hudson Valley Community College as a laboratory assistant in the machine shop.

He was a communican­t of the former St. Brigid’s Church and was a member of its Holy Name Society. He loved spending time at his camp on Schroon Lake and enjoyed three trips to Ireland.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Sedgwick Callahan; devoted father of Ann Marie Callahan and Brian J. Callahan both of Watervliet and the late Thomas P. Callahan Jr.; father-in-law of Barbara Callahan of Latham; proud grandfathe­r of Kevin (Elvia) Callahan of Las Vegas, and Ryan (Nicole) Callahan of Stow, Mass; great- grandfathe­r of Thomas, Alex and Kiera Callahan and soon to be expecting another greatgrand­son in January; brother of the late John Callahan and Sister Mary Augustine, RSM. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Eddy Village Green, House 22 and the fourth floor at Samaritan Hospital for their devoted care of dad.

The funeral Mass will be on Monday, September 24, at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Ave., Watervliet with the Reverend Donald Rutherford officiatin­g. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the church on Monday prior to the Mass from 9 10:30 a.m.
