Boston loses shortstop Bogaerts with shoulder injury in seventh inning

Greg Allen singled with one out and the bases loaded in the 11th inning and the Cleveland Indians defeated the Red Sox 4-3 on Sunday night to deny Boston’s bid for a club-record 106th victory for the second straight game.

Allen singled through the left side on a 3-2 pitch from Robby Scott to give Cleveland an 11thinning win for the second night in a row.

William Cuevas (0-2) walked leadoff man Jose Ramirez, who moved to second on Rajai Davis’ sacrifice. Shortstop Tzu-wei Lin, who replaced the injured Xander Bogaerts in the seventh, booted Erik Gonzalez’s ground ball, sending Ramirez to third.

Yandy Diaz, batting for Yonder Alonso, was intentiona­lly walked to load the bases and set the stage for Allen’s winning hit. Michael Brantley’s bases-loaded single gave the AL Central champions a 5-4 win in the 11th on Saturday night.

Josh Tomlin (2-5) pitched two scoreless innings.

Mookie Betts hit his 31st homer and had four hits, but the Red Sox will also have to wait at least one more day before wrapping the home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

Edwin Encarnacio­n got his 100th RBI of the season with a fourth-inning single, reaching the century mark for the fourth straight year.

Bogaerts was removed during his at-bat in the seventh inning because of a sore left shoulder. He fouled off a pitch and was visited by manager Alex Cora and a team trainer. Bogaerts walked to the dugout after a lengthy conversati­on and is listed as day to day.

Astros 6, Angels 2: Charlie morton left Houston’s win after one inning because of discomfort in his pitching shoulder.

Cardinals 9, Giants 2: miles mikolas won his fourth straight start, matt Carpenter hit his nl-leading 36th homer and St. Louis completed a threegame sweep to remain on track for the nl’s second wild card.

Rangers 6, Mariners 1: Adrian Beltre was given a standing ovation when he was removed from what could be his last home game for texas.

Twins 5, Athletics 1: minnesota prevented oakland from clinching an AL wild-card berth.

Dodgers 14, Padres 0: Hyun-jin ryu pitched six scoreless innings and tied a career high with three of the dodgers’ 16 hits.

Rockies 2, Diamondbac­ks 0: Kyle freeland extended his unbeaten streak to 10 starts, and Colorado beat Arizona for a three-game sweep.
