MENANDS — Sister Kathleen Burke, Daughter of Charity, died Friday, October 26, 2018, at St. Louise House. She died accompanie­d by her loving Sister companions and friends as she peacefully went to meet her Lord. Sister was 75 years of age and 57 years vocation.

Born in Syracuse, on January 14, 1943, Sister Kathleen was one of seven children born to Gerald William and Elizabeth Ann (Hayes) Burke. She is survived by her sisters, Sharon and Patty; her brothers, Jerry and Michael; several nieces, nephews, grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws. She is predecease­d

p p by her brother, William and her sister, Christine.

Sister Kathleen graduated from Cathedral High School in Syracuse. She entered the Community of the Daughters of Charity in August 1961. She earned her bachelor’s degree with a concentrat­ion in education from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, Md. Throughout her years in ministry, Sister Kathleen served in the field of education serving St. Joseph School, Holbrook, Mass. and many New York educationa­l facilities during her remaining years of service. She will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to be a recipient of her ministry as the Sister who spoke softly and always had a smile.

On August 10, 2012, Sister Kathleen joined The Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House, Menands. She remained there until her death.

A wake service for Sister Kathleen will be held Tuesday, October 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Depaul Chapel, 96 Menand Rd., Menands. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31 at Depaul Chapel with burial following the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
