ALBANY — Maria Pogoda, 94 of Albany, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at St. Peter’s Hospital, surrounded by her family. Maria (Chmielowie­c) Pogoda was born on February 16, 1924, in Borowa, Poland.

Maria married Michael Pogoda in 1950 and together they raise three children. In 1966, Maria and her family immigrated to the United States, residing in Albany. Maria was employed by the State University of New York until her retirement. Maria was a faith communican­t of St. Casmir and Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Churches of Albany. She was a deeply loving and devoted mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She was an avid baker and cook, who loved to share this gift with family, friends and neighbors. Maria was predecease­d by her husband Michael Pogoda. She is survived by her children, Edward (Nancy) Pogoda of Clifton Park, Christina (Tadeusz) Kulawiak of Colonie, and Andrew Pogoda of Albany. Maria was wonderful “Baba” to her eight grandchild­ren and five great-grandchild­ren. Maria is also survived by a sister, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews in Poland. Maria was adored by her family and will be greatly missed.

Maria’s family would like to give special thanks to the Staff at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center for their dedication and care.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 18, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 607 Central Ave., Albany at 9 a.m. A calling hour prior to the Mass will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, now located at 208 North Allen St., Albany. The Rite of Interment will immediatel­y follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
