WEST SAND LAKE — William J. “Bill” Rentz Jr. of West Sand Lake, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 13, 2019, with his family by his side. He was born in Albany and grew up in Rensselaer.

Bill was a graduate of Columbia High School. He attended Siena College and served as a unit medic in the U.S. Army, 364th General Hospital. Bill spent 35 years working for the New York State Department of Labor and retired as the manager of technical services in the Data Processing Department. His many interests included golf, bowling, skiing and carpentry as well as playing the drums and bugle for the Interstate­smen Drum and Bugle Core, the Crusaders and Grenadiers. Bill loved spending time with family and friends. The most loving grandfathe­r and godfather to Matthew and Laura Rentz. He enjoyed attending their sporting events as well as taking them to watch ball games, sledding, skiing and golfing.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Anne (Sweeney) Rentz; and son, Stephen (Libby) Rentz of East Greenbush. He was predecease­d by his father, William J. Rentz Sr. and by his mother, Mary (Fitzmauric­e) Rentz.

Bill was very fortunate to have Stephen, Libby, Matthew and Laura helping to care for him and watching over him and for his wife, Anne, who cared for him day and night.

The family thanks Dr. Feeney and Dr. Schoen for their excellent care and compassion; Eddy Alzheimer Services and Community Hospice for their kindness, care and assistance enabling Bill to remain home, and to all of the nurses and home health care aides and volunteers for their expert and loving care of Bill and Anne.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill’s family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Ave. (corner of 115th Street in Lansingbur­gh), Troy. The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home and at 11 a.m. in St. Henry’s Church, 39 Old Rte. 66, Averill Park. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Schaghtico­ke, in the spring.
