Rays’ victory dings Phils’ playoff hopes

Wendle’s two-run single in the eighth rallies Tampa Bay

St. Petersburg, Fla. Joey Wendle had a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning and the AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays rallied to hurt Philadelph­ia’s playoff hopes, beating the Phillies 6-4 on Friday night.

The Rays would clinch the top seed in the American League with an Oakland loss later Friday night; the A’s were playing host to Seattle. Tampa Bay is looking to finish with the AL’S best record for the second time, after topping the leag ue in 2010.

Bryce Harper had a triple and drove in two runs for Philadelph­ia, which fell two games behind secondplac­e Miami in the NL East and also trailed in the wide-open wild-card race. Indians 4, Pirates 3: Cesar Hernandez ripped an rbi double into the right-field corner with two outs in the ninth inning as Cleveland rallied for its third walk-off win in four days that kept the indians’ hopes alive for winning the AL Central. the indians (34-25) have clinched a playoff spot, and they can still overtake minnesota and the White Sox.
