Capitol, Plaza tours continue to Oct. 23 Scleroderm­a Foundation event is Saturday

ALBANY — The free exterior Capitol architectu­re tours, outdoor Empire State Plaza art collection tours and tours of the Plaza itself will continue through Oct. 23. The 45-minute tours will take place on Fridays and on Wednesdays.

The schedule is: Exterior Capitol architectu­re tours, 10 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays

Sitting atop State Street hill, the State Capitol has served as the state’s seat of government since the 1880s. The building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectu­ral grandeur, built by hand of solid masonry over a period of 32 years.

Empire State Plaza art collection outdoor tours, 11 a.m., Wednesdays and Fridays

The collection was put together under the direction of Gov. Nelson A. Rockefelle­r during the constructi­on of the Empire State Plaza, 1966-78. A highlight is Triangles and Arches by Alexander Calder, 20th century sculptor.

A 98.5 acre city-within-a-city that includes one of the greatest public collection­s of modern American art in the country, a cultural education center and a unique performing arts center, The Egg. The Scleroderm­a Foundation Tri- State Chapter will hold its Virtual Stepping Out to Cure

Scleroderm­a event on Saturday.

The family-friendly event brings together people with scleroderm­a, their families, friends and volunteers to honor people with scleroderm­a and lift the spirits of those who support them. Funds will help provide education and support services to the scleroderm­a community and help fund research to discover the cause, understand the mechanism and overcome scleroderm­a.
