Back injury sidelines Shiffrin for a month

VIENNA — Mikaela Shiffrin postponed her return to World Cup skiing for at least another month, pulling out of next week’s season-opening giant slalom in Austria with a back issue.

Ski Federation removed top administra­tor Sarah Lewis from her job citing a “complete loss of confidence.” Lewis had been secretary general of skiing’s governing body for 20 years.

College baseball: Washington was placed on probation for one year after the NCAA ruled the school had committed recruiting violations by paying $7,795 for the travel of parents accompanyi­ng prospects on official visits. Washington will also be fined $5,000 and have its official visits for 2020-21 reduced from 25 to 18. Washington athletic director Jennifer Cohen will appeal.
