Back injury sidelines Shiffrin for a month
VIENNA — Mikaela Shiffrin postponed her return to World Cup skiing for at least another month, pulling out of next week’s season-opening giant slalom in Austria with a back issue.

Ski Federation removed top administrator Sarah Lewis from her job citing a “complete loss of confidence.” Lewis had been secretary general of skiing’s governing body for 20 years.
College basketball: Wichita State is conducting an internal investigation into allegations that men’s coach Gregg Marshall mistreated players. Former forward Shaq Morris said he was punched twice by Marshall during an October 2015 practice, and former guard Ty Taylor said he saw it happen. ... College baseball: Washington was placed on probation for one year after the NCAA ruled the school had committed recruiting violations by paying $7,795 for the travel of parents accompanying prospects on official visits. Washington will also be fined $5,000 and have its official visits for 2020-21 reduced from 25 to 18. Washington athletic director Jennifer Cohen will appeal.
Soccer: Part of a Fifa-funded stadium in South Sudan collapsed during renovation. There were no casualties or injuries.
NBA: The NBA returned to Chinese TV after a one-year absence, airing Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Heat, the first time the league appeared there since the rift that started when Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tweeted support for anti-government protesters in Hong Kong.
Gymnastics: The USOC sued several insurance companies, accusing them of holding up settlement negotiations with hundreds who were sexually abused by former gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar.
Cycling: Arnaud Demare earned his second straight stage victory and Joao Almeida kept the overall lead at the Giro d’italia.
