Getting There
DOT: Collar City Bridge entry ramp will be repaved.
Q: There seems to be an abundance of work being done on Alternate Route 7 and the Collar City Bridge.
Do we know if DOT has any intentions of repaving the entry ramp from Sixth Avenue heading west on the Collar City Bridge? It’s like a minefield.
—Bernie Bouchey A: The state Department of Transportation is planning on repaving the entry ramp, according to Bryan Viggiani, public information officer for the agency.
The work on the driving surface of the Collar City Bridge is due to be substantially completed later this fall, he said, weather permitting. It includes milling and repaving the on-ramp from Sixth Avenue to the bridge and the off-ramp from Route 7 eastbound to Sixth Avenue.
Q: NYS DOT generally does a very good job with its road signage, but the I-87 southbound sign for exits 7 and 6 has been incorrect for years. At milepost 7.2, the exit sign says exits 7 and 6 are one mile ahead. Just twotenths of a mile later (milepost 7.0), the exit lane starts. An easy fix would seem to be changing "1 mile" to "1/4 mile." —Tom Clingan
Cohoes A: In providing the distance to an exit, the DOT measures to the physical split, not the start of the exit lane where the road widens, Viggiani said. By that metric, the distance between the sign on I-87 and the exit ramp itself is approximately one mile away.
Deadline extended
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has extended the deadline to renew vehicle registrations and non-driver ID cards until Nov. 3. Vehicle registrations, including temporary auto dealer registrations, and nondriver ID cards that expired in March or after will not be valid after that date.
The Department of Motor Vehicles is urging drivers to renew any expired documents before the deadline. Instructions for renewal online can be found at https://dmv.ny.gov/registration/how-renew-registration. Non-driver IDS may also be renewed online.
