NHL, union clear path toward Jan. 13 start
The National Hockey League is aiming for a Jan. 13 start date for the 2020-21 regular season and and a 56-game schedule, according to multiple reports. The NHL and NHL Players' Association have reportedly moved past financial issues and are now focused on season planning amid the coronavirus pandemic, NHL depu ty commissioner Bill Daly told the Athletic’s Pierre Lebrun on Tuesday.
The new return-to-play plan must be approved by the NHL’S board of governors and the NHLPA'S executive board before an official announcement.
Auto racing: Colton Herta will race in Indycar in 2021 for Andretti Autosport. Herta, 20, will drive the No. 26 Honda with sponsorship from Gainbridge. He will no longer be part of the Harding Steinbrenner Racing extension of Andretti. Although Herta was under the Andretti banner in 2020, his Indycar entry his first two seasons was actually coowned by Mike Harding and George Steinbrenner IV.
Rugby: Eight former international rugby players, including World Cup-winning England forward Steve Thompson, have teamed up to look into whether to pursue legal action against the sport’s authorities for what they claim is negligence over brain injuries they sustained during their careers.

Local: Former Siena cross country and track star Tom Dalton was elected to the USA Track and Field Masters Hall of Fame. Dalton, who graduated from Siena in 1980, was named to the Siena Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985 and was also named to the Greater Capital Region Track, Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2019. His career at Siena included three consecutive qualifications for the NCAA Division I cross country championships.
