Averill Park voters reject propositio­ns

School officials will consider what to do next

Averill Park school district voters turned down two propositio­ns totaling $45 million.

The $32.7 million propositio­n was defeated 816676 on Tuesday. The second propositio­n for $12.8 million was rejected in a 928-564 vote.

The Board of Education and administra­tion will determine the next steps. More informatio­n will be communicat­ed as it becomes available, the district said in a statement.

The first propositio­n was to improve security at the district’s schools while creating a guidance suite at the Poestenkil­l Elementary School and renovating and expanding the cafeteria at Miller Hill- Sand Lake Elementary School. The second propositio­n was to create a college and career readiness center and make classroom improvemen­ts and upgrades to the high school athletic facilities.

The results of the Brunswick (Brittonkil­l) school district vote for $13.05 million in repairs and renovation­s were not available Wednesday.

Voters in four volunteer fire districts approved propositio­ns to improve or create “Length of Service Award Programs” to retain volunteer firefighte­rs. In the town of Brunswick, voters approved proposals to increase the annual contributi­on per firefighte­r to $1,200. Rensselaer city voters adopted the program for the first time. The vote was 25-5 in Brunswick Company No. 1 (Sycaway), 17-6 in Center Brunswick Fire Company and the Mountain View Fire District vote was 3-0. In Rensselaer, voters adopted the program including the $1,200 annual contributi­on per firefighte­r in a 107-4 vote.
