Averill Park voters reject propositions
School officials will consider what to do next
Averill Park school district voters turned down two propositions totaling $45 million.
The $32.7 million proposition was defeated 816676 on Tuesday. The second proposition for $12.8 million was rejected in a 928-564 vote.
The Board of Education and administration will determine the next steps. More information will be communicated as it becomes available, the district said in a statement.
The first proposition was to improve security at the district’s schools while creating a guidance suite at the Poestenkill Elementary School and renovating and expanding the cafeteria at Miller Hill- Sand Lake Elementary School. The second proposition was to create a college and career readiness center and make classroom improvements and upgrades to the high school athletic facilities.

The results of the Brunswick (Brittonkill) school district vote for $13.05 million in repairs and renovations were not available Wednesday.
Voters in four volunteer fire districts approved propositions to improve or create “Length of Service Award Programs” to retain volunteer firefighters. In the town of Brunswick, voters approved proposals to increase the annual contribution per firefighter to $1,200. Rensselaer city voters adopted the program for the first time. The vote was 25-5 in Brunswick Company No. 1 (Sycaway), 17-6 in Center Brunswick Fire Company and the Mountain View Fire District vote was 3-0. In Rensselaer, voters adopted the program including the $1,200 annual contribution per firefighter in a 107-4 vote.
