LATHAM — William P. Mirabile Jr., 70, passed away with his loving family by his side on December 15, 2020, after a nine-year battle with Leukemia.

Born on November 3, 1950, in Albany, he was the son of Esther Mirabile-bustard of Altamont and the late William P. Mirabile Sr.

A graduate of H.V.C.C. and SUNY Albany, Bill spent 30 plus years working for the N.Y.S. Dept. of Environmen­tal Conservati­on, where he was primarily involved with the developmen­t of wastewater discharge permits for the protection of streams and rivers. While at D.E.C., he was also a volunteer follow up responder, helping with the clean-up effort after the 9/11 tragedy in New York City. During another phase of his career, Bill spent four years living in Saudi Arabia where he was proud to have managed the developmen­t of the Royal Commission­s programs for industrial wastewater monitoring and discharges to the Red Sea.

Bill had a passion for outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, skiing and scuba diving. One area that held a special place in his heart was the High Peaks Region of the Adirondack­s where he enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends. An avid traveler, Bill loved sharing stories of the time spend visiting and exploring more than 20 countries around the world.

He is survived by his life partner, Beth Garabedian of Latham and her children, Kristen and Stephen; mother Esther Bustard; brother Dave (Terri) Mirabile of Delanson; sisters, Linda Mirabile (David) of Montpelier Vt., Susan (Jon) Cember of Sleepy Hollow, and Cathy (Michael) Glass of Altamont; and eight beloved nieces and nephews.

Bill wanted to express gratitude and appreciati­on to his loving partner and caregiver Beth, and acknowledg­e the excellent care he received from Dr. Ira Zackon and staff at NYOH of Albany, Dr. Robert Soiffer and staff at the Dana-farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Services will be held in the spring.
