Pirates 1B Josh Bell traded to Nationals
First baseman Josh Bell has been traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Washington Nationals, it was announced Thursday.
In return, the Pirates will get young pitchers Wil Crowe, who made his debut with the
Nats in 2020, and Eddy Yean.
Coming off a 2019 season in which he set career highs in almost every offensive category, Bell, 28, regressed during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, hitting .226 with eight home runs and 22 RBIS.
Crowe, 26, went 0-2 with an 11.88 ERA in three starts for the Nationals. Yean, 19, is 3-5 with a 4.70 ERA in 20 starts in Washington's farm system.
NBA: James Harden will be in quarantine until Friday, meaning the Houston Rockets star could be eligible to play Saturday when his team is to finally open its season in Portland. The Rockets were scheduled to play Wednesday against Oklahoma City, a game postponed for a variety of coronavirus issues. Among them was Harden declared unavailable to play after the NBA determined he violated the league’s health and safety protocols.
NHL: The New Jersey Devils have agreed to terms with center Dawson Mercer on a three-year entry-level contract. Mercer was the 18th pick overall in the recent draft. Mercer is currently representing Canada at the 2021 World
Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alberta. ... The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward Anthony Cirelli to a three-year, $14.4 million contract. Cirelli, 23, finished his entry-level contract in 2019-20 while posting a career-high 44 points. He had nine points during the playoff run, scoring the winning goal in overtime to propel the champions into the Stanley Cup Final.
Soccer: Paris Saint-germain has fired manager Thomas Tuchel, with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino set to replace him. ESPN reported that Pochettino has been in negotiations with PSG for two weeks.
