Stanford routs Arizona

No. 1 Cardinal led by Jones’ 18 points and 10 rebounds vs. No. 6 foe

Tucson, Ariz. Haley Jones had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Lexie Hull added 13 points and top-ranked Stanford overwhelme­d No. 6 Arizona early in an 81-54 rout Friday night.

The Cardinal (8-0, 5-0 Pac-12) took care of No. 10 UCLA on Monday and kept rolling in their second top-10 showdown in four days.

Stanford raced past the Wildcats with a 15-2 run in the first quarter and had a 24-point lead by halftime. The Cardinal kept up the pressure and finished with a 51-32 rebounding advantage to avenge a loss to the Wildcats a year ago.

Sam Thomas scored 14 points and Aari Mcdonald added 12 on 3-for-18 shooting for Arizona (7-1, 5-1), which remained winless (0-5) against top-ranked teams.

Louisville 74, Northern Kentucky 64:

Dana Evans scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half, and No. 2 Louisville rallied to beat Northern Kentucky. Olivia Cochran scored 13 points and Elizabeth Dixon had 12 in Louisville’s first game since Dec. 9. Kianna Smith finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals for Louisville (6-0). Lindsey Duvall, who transferre­d to NKU from Louisville, led the Norse (4-5) with 20 points.

Oregon 92, Southern Cal 69:

Taylor Mikesell made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, and No. 8 Oregon remained undefeated with a victory over USC. It was Oregon’s 27th straight victory, the longest active winning streak in the nation. The Ducks (8-0, 6-0 Pac-12) have also won 24 consecutiv­e conference games and 22 games at Matthew Knight Arena.

Men

Rider 70, Fairfield 62: Dwight Murray Jr. had 20 points as Rider got past Fairfield. Christian Ings had 12 points for Rider (2-6, 2-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), which snapped its four-game losing streak. Taj Benning scored a career-high 22 points and had nine rebounds for the Stags (1-9, 1-4), who have now lost four straight games. Jake Wojcik added 15 points. Chris Maidoh had 11 rebounds. Marist 63, Niagara 61: Ricardo Wright registered 16 points and seven rebounds as Marist narrowly beat Niagara. Wright made two free throws with eight seconds left for a five-point lead. Raheim Sullivan added 12 points and seven assists, Braden Bell chipped in 11 points and Jordan Jones had nine rebounds for Marist (6-1, 4-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), which earned its fourth consecutiv­e win. Marcus Hammond had 17 points for the Purple Eagles (3-4, 2-3). Kobi Nwandu and Nicholas Kratholm each had 11 points.

Canisius 70, St. Peter’s 58: Jacco Fritz recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Canisius to a win over St. Peter’s. Jordan Henderson had 14 points for Canisius (2-3, 2-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Armon Harried added seven rebounds. KC Ndefo had 17 points, seven rebounds and five blocks for the Peacocks (6-4, 3-2). Doug Edert added 15 points. Daryl Banks III had 11 points and six assists.
