Houston rebounds to beat SMU

Quentin Grimes hit a go-ahead 3-pointer to ignite a 10-0 run to start the second half for No. 5 Houston and the Cougars rebounded from their first loss with a 74-60 victory over previously undefeated SMU on Sunday night.

That 3-pointer by Grimes from the top of the key put Houston ahead to stay on the first shot after halftime.

Marcus Sasser led Houston with 17 points, and Justin Gorham had 11 points and 19 rebounds.

Kendric Davis led SMU with 23 points.

Michigan 85, Northweste­rn 66:

Hunter Dickinson scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half and No. 16 Michigan beat No. 19 Northweste­rn to remain unbeaten. Robbie Beran scored 14 points for Northweste­rn, which has dropped two in a row.

Minnesota 77, Ohio St. 60: Liam Robbins had 27 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks for No. 21 Minnesota in a victory over No. 25 Ohio State.

America East Men

Hartford 77: Binghamton 74: Austin Williams hit a 3pointer at the buzzer and scored 16 points to lead six Hartford players in double figures as the Hawks edged Binghamton. Williams launched his game winner from the top of the arc with about two seconds left.

Umass Lowell 74, NJIT 60:

Salif Boudie scored 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds to carry Umass Lowell. Antwuan Butler had 15 points for the Highlander­s.

New Hampshire 62, Maine 58:

Jayden Martinez had a career-high 23 points as New Hampshire narrowly beat Maine, splitting the weekend series.

Ja’shonte Wright-mcleish had 12 points and Stephane Ingo had 10 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks for Maine.

Women’s Top 25

Stanford 68, Arizona St. 60: Francesca Belibi scored a career-high 23 points and added 12 rebounds and Kiana Williams had 16 points to lead No. 1 Stanford to a victory over stubborn Arizona State.

North Carolina State 76, Boston College 57: Elissa Cunane scored 14 of her 24 points in the first half and No. 3 North Carolina State avoided the type of drama.

Arizona 69, California 33:

Trinity Baptiste scored 17 points, Aari Mcdonald had 12 points and eight assists, and No. 6 Arizona bounced back from its first loss of the season with a rout over winless California.

UCLA 73, Oregon 71:

Michaela Onyenwere had a careerhigh 33 points along with 10 rebounds and No. 11 UCLA held off No. 8 Oregon, snapping the Ducks’ 27-game winning streak. In addition to the longest active winning streak in the nation, the Ducks had won 24 straight conference games and 22 consecutiv­e games at Matthew Knight Arena.

Texas A&M 92, Florida 67: N’dea Jones had 17 points and 18 rebounds, notching her sixth double-double of the season, and No. 9 Texas A&M remained unbeaten.

Arkansas 91, Missouri 88:

Chelsea Dungee scored 25 points and No. 10 Arkansas hit all eight of its free throws in the final 2:08 to beat Missouri.

Kentucky 92, Miss. St. 86 (OT):

Rhyne Howard scored 10 points in overtime, after scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter, and finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead No. 13 Kentucky over No. 12 Mississipp­i State.

Michigan 84, Northweste­rn 63: Naz Hillmon scored 26 and Leigha Brown scored 22 and No. 16 Michigan beat No. 15 Northweste­rn.

Texas 74, Iowa St. 59:

Joanne Allen-taylor scored 16 points to lead a balanced attack and No. 19 Texas defeated Iowa State.

Mich. St. 71, Purdue 64:

Nia Clouden scored 13 of her 23 points in the final 10-plus minutes to help No. 25 Michigan State turn aside a feisty Purdue rally and preserve the undefeated Spartans’ best start to a season in eight years.
