Amedio, Eugene P. "Gene"
— Eugene P. "Gene" Amedio, 88 of Hilgert Parkway in Schoharie, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2020, at the Albany Medical Center.
Eugene was born on April 26, 1932, in Albany, a son of Anthony and Emma Jane (Florian) Amedio. He graduated from the RavenaCoeyman’s High School, class of 1949 while working on the family farm in Ravena. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 26, 1952. He was an electronics technician third class aboard the aircraft carrier USS Norton Sound serving overseas during the Korean War, and receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. Upon returning to his native Ravena, he began a long career with the General Electric Company in Schenectady where he worked his way to unit manager in the Large Steam Turbine division, retiring in 1987 after 31 years of service. During this time, he met his soulmate, June Klahr and they married on December 10, 1966, moving to their new home in Schoharie shortly after. Gene embarked on the "greatest retirement" and enjoyed golf, traveling, and taking pride in his home and property with his beloved June.
He was a communicant of the former St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Schoharie where he served as a trustee and held membership in the men’s club. He was a current member of Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church in Middleburgh, a 50-year member and past president of Schoharie Kiwanis Club, past president of Schoharie Little League and was elected as a village trustee serving on various village committees. Gene took pride in his longtime membership in the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club serving as president during the expansion to 18 holes in the early ’90s.
Survivors include the love of his life, June; his numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joe, John, Dominick, Louis, Louise, Anne Tateo, Angela Biscone, and Mary Behan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church, Middleburgh, at the convenience of the family. Burial with military honors will be held later in the Lutheran Cemetery in Schoharie.
In keeping with Gene’s generosity, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gene to a charity of one’s choice.
