Diamond, Gloria Gubman

-

— Gloria Gubman Diamond, age 90, died on January 5, 2021, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

Born in Syracuse, Gloria was the daughter of the late Joel Gubman and Belle Kaplan Gubman. She lived most of her life in Hudson with her loving husband of 68 years, Irwin Diamond. She and Irwin moved into the Beverwyck Community in Slingerlands six years ago.

Gloria graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in music and enjoyed playing violin and piano. It was at SU that she met Irwin, marrying him right after she graduated in 1952. After living in Philadelphia while Irwin was in the Army, they moved to Hudson where they started their family. Gloria was a life member of Congregation Anshe Emeth and she was proud to be a Hebrew School and Sunday School teacher there for many years. Later she worked with Irwin in their business, Columbia Auto Parts.

Gloria and Irwin were always up for doing new things. They enjoying traveling, loved visting Mexico in the early years, and traveled around the U.S. and Canada in an R.V. With their love of antiques (and the retailing in their blood), they thought it would be fun to buy a place in the Adirondacks and open up an antique shop. With their vision they bought a beautiful Victorian house, fixed it up together and Hi Tor Antiques was born. Gloria loved shopping auctions, garage sales, flea markets and house sales, and filled the Adirondack shop - and later a number of group shops - with her finds and her personality.

Gloria loved to do crossword and jigsaw puzzles; she was proud of her times on the daily and Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles - always and only in ink, of course - and of her membership in Mensa. She loved to play multi-hand solitaire with her daughters and was happy to be playing double solitaire until her final days. Gloria was a wonderful cook. She would always say that if anyone left her table hungry, it was their own fault. She loved to include friends and family for holidays and occasions and always cooked enough to feed an army.

Gloria is survived by her husband Irwin Diamond; her daughters, Sherry Lynn Diamond and her partner Art Feinglass of New York City, Michele Diamond Mirsky and her husband Leon Mirsky of Albany, and Suanne Diamond and her partner Rick Senger of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; and her brother, Zane Gubman of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Gloria died after a long battle with kidney disease. Irwin was a constant presence by her side and lovingly cared for her as her health declined in recent years. Special thanks go to those who cared for her during the past few years, especially her aide Diane Williams of Troy and all the caring professionals at DCI in East Greenbush and at the Hospice Inn. Gloria will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held in the Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson on Wednes
