Nixon’s shot lifts Aggies over Razorbacks

Texas A&M remains perfect with late basket

Jordan Nixon hit a running shot with under a second left to lift No. 8 Texas A&M over No. 13 Arkansas 74-73 on Sunday.

Nixon’s shot from outside the lane helped the Aggies (12-0, 3-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) keep their perfect season intact. It was also Texas A&M’S only lead in the fourth quarter.

Arkansas’ Chelsea Dungee put up a shot from the left corner at the buzzer, but the shot was blocked. Dungee led the way for Arkansas (10-4, 1-3) with 21 points.

Louisville 70, Clemson 45:

Kianna Smith scored 17 points and No. 2 Louisville, after waiting out a late delay caused by COVID-19 protocols, beat Clemson.

Washington State 71, Arizona 69: Charlisse Leger-walker made a layup at the buzzer in overtime and Washington State rallied past No. 7 Arizona. LegerWalke­r also made a layup with two seconds left in regulation to tie it at 60, converting after a pass from sister Krystal Leger-walker.

UCLA 92, Utah 67: Natalie Chou scored a career-high 28 points and No. 9 UCLA rolled over Utah.

Oregon 100, California 41: Kylee Watson scored a career-high 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting and No. 11 Oregon obliterate­d California.

Maryland 83, Purdue 46: Ashley Owusu had 19 points and nine assists, Diamond Miller added 16 points and eight assists and No. 12 Maryland coasted over Purdue.

Michigan 70, Illinois 50: Naz Hillmon scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and No. 15 Michigan continued its school-best start with a win over Illinois.

Indiana 74, Wisconsin 49:

Ali Patberg scored 21 points, Mackenzie Holmes added 14 and No. 19 Indiana beat Wisconsin.

Nebraska 68, Michigan State 64: Kate Cain blocked a 3-point shot with five seconds remaining and Whitney Brown followed with the clinching free

throw, and Nebraska upset No. 23 Michigan State.

America East Women

Umass-lowell 74: Hartford 52: Kharis Idom scored 19 points to lead Umass-lowell over Hartford. Jada Lucas led Hartford with 12 points.

Maine 74, NJIT 51: Blanca Millan scored 21 points to lift the Black Bears over NJIT. Lilly Anderson led NJIT with 17 points.

New Hampshire 57, Binghamton 52: Ivy Gogolin notched her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lift New Hampshire over Binghamton. Denai Brown led the Bearcats with 14 points.

MAAC Women

Marist 50, Manhattan 46: Trinasia Kennedy scored 11 points and Willow Duffell added 10 as Marist held on to beat Manhattan. Dee Dee Davis led the Jaspers with 11 points.

Men’s Top 25

Iowa 86, No. 16 Minnesota 71: Luka Garza scored 33 points and Joe Wieskamp added 20 as No. 5 Iowa beat No. 16 Minnesota. Jordan Bohannon had 19

points and a career-high 14 assists for the Hawkeyes, who avenged their overtime loss to the Golden Gophers on Christmas. Iowa, which led 39-37 at halftime, opened the second half with a 22-6 run. The Gophers defeated Iowa 102-95 in overtime on Dec. 25 by coming back from seven points down with 44 seconds left.

Va. Tech 77, Notre Dame 63: Jalen Cone scored 18 points off the bench to lift No. 19 Virginia Tech over Notre Dame. Cone connected on 5 of 11 from the floor, including four 3-pointers.

America East Men

UMBC 68, New Hampshire 66: R.J. Eytle-rock had a season-high 27 points, including the winning basket with less than a minute to play, as Maryland-baltimore County narrowly beat New Hampshire. Eytle-rock drove from the right side into the lane for a floater with 58.4 seconds left to make it 68-66. The Wildcats missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and UMBC missed a shot with 11 seconds left before New Hampshire’s Blondeau Tschoukuie­ngo missed a contested shot at the buzzer.

Hartford 75, Umass-lowell 58: Austin Williams had a career-high 29 points as Hartford topped Umass

Lowell. Hunter Marks had 13 points and eight rebounds for Hartford. Obadiah Noel had 18 points for the River Hawks.

Vermont 84, Binghamton 44:

Tomas Murphy came off the bench to tally 13 points to lift Vermont over Binghamton. All 13 Catamounts scored. Vermont dominated the first half and led 43-22 at the break. The Bearcats’ 22 first-half points marked a season low for the team., which has lost 13 straight in the series.

Maine 45, NJIT 41: Stephane Ingo had 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead Maine to over NJIT. Lechaun Duhart had 15 points for Maine. San Antonio Brinson had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Highlander­s.

MAAC Men

Monmouth 72, Marist 62: Deion Hammond had 21 points as Monmouth topped Marist for the 1,000th win in program history. Hammond hit 9-of-11 foul shots and moved up to seventh on the all-time scoring. The Hawks have won 533 games since moving up to Division I in 1983 and 467 wins prior to that. Bill Boylan, the first Monmouth coach, has the most wins with 364, including the first on Dec. 1 1956, 51-47 at the Long Branch YMCA.
