Launch conservation projects for students How would rioters have fared at Mar-a-lago?

- Robert Fredette Niskayuna

The article “Amsler farm protected from development,” Dec. 26, indicated family commitment to sustaining our vital resources and town officials’ support to “hopefully renew agriculture and active farming on the land, as the program protects the quality of farmland soil.”

Our regional community support for agricultural conservation and development must attempt to meet the growing needs at our food pantries, soup kitchens, school cafeterias and nonprofit human resource organizations.

Bethlehem Central School District’s contract with owners of preserved farmland and woodlands can partner with Albany County Cooperative Extension and the town planning department to organize an applied environmental STEM studies program. An environmental studies Career and Technical Education project can enhance learning natural resource protection and production by interested students and community leaders.

A multi-purpose consolidated funding application to the state government for a possible monetary resource can attempt to meet our societal needs. Michael Mcglynn

It's hard for me to describe in words the sadness and disgust I felt as I watched the events of Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol. I couldn't believe that this was taking place in the country that I love and for which I served honorably for three years in the military during the Vietnam War. No doubt there will be volumes written about this day in the weeks, months and years to come. I, however, feel compelled to make one small observation.

It is in regard to the photograph that appeared in section C on Jan. 7 next to Chris Churchill's column ("Watching a despicable attack on democracy"). In the photo are two men confronting Capitol Police inside the building.

One sports a ragged beard and looks like a character from the old Grizzly Adams television show. The other appears bare-chested with some sort of animal skin around his neck and a set of horns on his head.

I can't help but wonder if these two men would have been able to breach the security of the Mar-aLago resort and enter its lobby since they are two of President Donald Trump's “special” people whom he loves. Or would they have been summarily ousted by his staff or perhaps even arrested and charged with trespass?
