- By Kenneth C. Crowe II

City Hall will reopen to the public on Monday, March 22, when it resumes its regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as vaccination for COVID -19 expands, the city announced Thursday.

“As vaccine availability in the Capital Region continues to increase, we are taking the necessary steps to reopen City Hall safely and responsibly. Guidelines will be implemented to protect employee and public health, including use of personal protective equipment and limits on access to specific departments by appointment only,” Mayor Patrick Madden said in a statement.

City Hall is located on the fifth floor of 533 River St. It has been closed to the public for nearly all of the pandemic with city employees working at City Hall on a limited basis.

The city has not yet determined when regular meetings of the City Council, Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and other city boards will resume in-person meetings at City Hall, said John Salka, a mayoral spokesman. Meetings will continue to be held remotely.

Visitors to City Hall will be required to wear masks. They also will have to follow city health guidelines. Residents are urged to limit visits to City Hall and to use online services available through the city website at troyny.gov.

The city has set operational safety plans for individual departments. For department contact information, visit www.troyny.gov/departments.

A free virtual concert will be presented by the SUNY Schenectady School of Music alumni at 2 p.m. Sunday.
