Museum names D’angelo director
Hart Cluett makes move as filming on HBO series nears
Starlyn D’angelo has been named executive director of the Hart Cluett Museum, the museum’s board of directors announced Wednesday.
“Star’s deep knowledge and experience in the museum field will secure our mission to enrich the present and advocate for the future by bringing the region’s past to life,” Board President Mark D. Shipley said in a statement.
The Hart Cluett Museum is located in two historic 19th-century townhouses at 57 Second St. with a carriage house. The Hart-cluett House is a historic house museum while the Carr Building hosts the museum’s exhibits, programs and research library.
“I look forward to leading this historic treasure and professional staff as we recognize every face and every story in Rensselaer County,” D’angelo said.
The museum’s new executive director joins the staff as HBO’S “The Gilded Age” television series prepares to film at the museum and in the surrounding neighborhood in late May-early June.
D’angelo’s most recent position was as director of philanthropy and strategic initiatives at the Palace Performing Arts Center in Albany.
Previously D’angelo was the executive director of the Shaker Heritage Society in Colonie where she worked for 15 years. She was in charge of the exterior restoration of the 1848 Shaker Meeting House, the stabilization of the 1915 Shaker Barn Complex and developing “Virtual Watervliet,” which won awards for its digital reconstruction of the site.
D’angelo also worked in curatorial positions at the Shaker Museum Mount Lebanon in New Lebanon and the Old Stone Fort Museum in Schoharie. D’angelo is a board member of the Museum Association of New York. She received a master’s degree in museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program.
D’angelo will start work at the Hart Cluett Museum at the end of March. D’angelo succeeds Karin Krasevac-lenz who retired in January.
