Britton, Streaks escape Eagles

He scores 27 as Saratoga holds off Bethlehem rally

Luke Britton scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers, and Saratoga held off Bethlehem 49-44 in a Suburban Council contest Monday night.

After opening up a 31-22 lead at halftime, the Blue Streaks saw their lead dwindle to two at the end of the third quarter. Using a balanced attack and stingy defense, the Eagles narrowed the score to 35-33.

Britton then helped Saratoga right the ship, scoring eight points in the final period, as the Blue Streaks held on for the win. Kaleb Lewis added 10 for Saratoga, including a pair of 3pointers in the first quarter.

Marko Gibbons led three Eagles in double figures with 12 points, while Marcus Gentile and Matt Fuscus each finished with 10 points.

More boys' basketball: Averill Park scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and eight in overtime to overcome Guilderlan­d 44-41. Ben Romer scored 17 points for the Warriors, including three 3-pointers. Willem Feeney scored 12 for the Dutchmen, who also got 10 points from Mitch Mackissock . ... Damien Fiducia scored 40 points, including four 3pointers, to lead Greenville over Maple Hill 76-65. Blake Decker led Maple Hill with 16 points . ... Cameron Vanslyke scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lift Johnstown over Mayfield 62-57. Kyle Capparello led all scorers with 20 points for Mayfield.

Girls' basketball: Natasha Chudy scored 21 points, Lauren Patnode added 11 and Saratoga rallied to beat Guilderlan­d 51-49. The Blue Streaks outscored the Lady Dutch 15-10 in the final quarter to earn the win. Valencia Fontenelle-posson led all scorers with 27 points for the Lady Dutch, including five 3-pointers . ... Anna Jankovic scored 20 points, Amelia Wood added 16 and Averill Park broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to beat Shaker 57-46. The Warriors held a 40-39 advantage at the end of three quarters before tightening their defense against the Blue Bison.

Paige Bueckers scored 23 points to lead top-ranked Uconn over Marquette 73-39 on Monday night for the program’s 19th Big East Tournament championsh­ip.

The standout freshman hit 10 of 15 shots, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists for the Huskies (24-1), who rejoined the league this season after winning seven straight titles in the American Athletic Conference.

Christyn Williams added 16 points as Uconn won its 160th straight game in conference play.

Camryn Taylor had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Marquette (19-6), which lost in the conference final for the fourth straight season after winning the title in 2017. Columbia High grad Selena Lott, who came into the game averaging just more than 15 points, was held to two points on five shots and was hounded by Williams all game.
