New executive chef named for New World Bistro Bar

Ian Brower, who has run kitchens at Albany restaurants including Lost & Found Bar & Kitchen and the former Capital City Gastropub and was chef de cuisine at the original incarnation of Donna’s Italian in Troy, has been named executive chef of New World Bistro Bar in Albany.

Owner Annette Nanes said the restaurant, closed since mid-january for a pandemic-related winter break, is projected to reopen on or about April 21 with a new menu by Brower. There will be a large tent in the rear parking lot, as New World had in late summer and fall last year, and indoor seating will be at up to 75 percent capacity, assuming that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s announced capacity expansion happens starting Friday.

Nanes opened New World with her husband, Scott Meyer, in 2009. They parted ways with New World’s celebrated founding chef, Ric Orlando, in June. His replacements, Hannah and Zachary Welton, married chefs who moved cross-country during the pandemic last summer to take over the kitchen at New World, resigned earlier this month, saying they could not come to agreement with Nanes and Meyer on the terms and timing of the restaurant’s reopening.

“The management team at NWBB is excited to move forward to again create a Bistro where people enjoy our creative food, lively staff and exciting atmosphere,” Nanes said in a statement.

New World is at 300 Delaware Ave.
