La Salle tops Amsterdam

Fenton’s 99-yard score sparks Cadets

- Sports Staff

Bo Catherwood rushed for three touchdowns and Brady Fenton had a gamechanging 99-yard touchdown reception to spark La Salle to a 25-8 win at Amsterdam on Friday in a Class A football contest.

The Cadets hadn’t generated much offense through the first 18 minutes when Fenton hauled in a pass from Eddie Yamin and raced the length of the field to give La Salle a lead it would not relinquish. James Shatas tackled Catherwood in the end zone for a safety to give the Rugged Rams the early lead.

Amsterdam had a chance to take a larger lead, but could not put up points after three trips in La Salle territory early in a game plagued by turnovers and penalties.

After Fenton turned the momentum in La Salle’s favor, Catherwood took over. He had a 10-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter and punched in his second touchdown with 10:28 left in the fourth quarter to give the Cadets an 18-2 lead.

Trying to rally, Amsterdam was stopped on fourth and goal with eight minutes left, but Tommy Ziskin hit Ceasar Thompson with a 38-yard touchdown pass with 5:25 left.

Yamin and Fenton hooked up on a 33-yard completion to extend a drive and Catherwood capped the drive with his third trip to the end zone to seal the win.
