Nelson leads Isles past Flyers

Brock Nelson scored in regulation and got the only goal in a five-round shootout to give the New York Islanders a 3-2 win over the Philadelph­ia Flyers on Thursday night.

Jordan Eberle also scored and Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves as the Islanders won their fourth straight. New York improved to 17-1-2 at Nassau Coliseum, the only team in the league with one regulation loss on home ice.

Penguins 5, Rangers 2: Kris Letang and Evan Rodrigues scored in the second period, and Pittsburgh beat New York.

Devils 6, Sabres 3: Jesper Boqvist scored the go-ahead goal with 11:15 remaining and New Jersey overcame the disappoint­ment of having two key veteran forwards traded to beat Buffalo.

Bruins 4, Capitals 2: Brad Marchand scored a shorthande­d goal, Jeremy Swayman made 31 saves to win his second NHL start and Boston beat Washington.

Shore broke a tie with 7:02 left, Mike Smith made 39 saves and Edmonton beat Ottawa.

Lightning 6, Blue Jackets 4: Tampa Bay scored three times in the first six minutes and Andrei Vasilevski­y made 32 saves for the Lightning.

Jets 4, Canadiens 2: Connor

Hellebuyck made 36 saves as Winnipeg beat Montreal.

Hurricanes 3, Panthers 0: Alex Nedeljkovi­c made 24 saves for his third career shutout, all in his last 12 games, and Vincent Trocheck scored another goal against his former team.

Predators 7, Red Wings 1: Viktor Arvidsson scored three times to lead surging Nashville.

Stars 5, Blackhawks 1: Blake Comeau scored twice, Roope Hintz had a goal and three assists and Dallas beat Chicago.

Notes: The Blackhawks acquired forward Brett Connolly and defenseman Riley Stillman from the Panthers in exchange for forward Lucas Wallmark and defenseman Lucas Carlsson. The Blackhawks also got the rights to prospect Henrik Borgstrom and Florida’s seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft . ... Avalanche defenseman Jacob Macdonald was suspended for two games without pay for an illegal check to the head on Wild forward Ryan Hartman.
