Yet more bagels for Albany

-

A bagel-focused bakery called Nyx that operates from a commercial kitchen in Albany has opened. Its bagels are for sale at the Delmar Farmers Market and for pickup and local delivery. There is no retail storefront.

Last month, Pearl’s Bagels & Bakery began as a home-baking delivery operation prior to its takeout location opening in late summer in Albany’s Whitehall neighborhood.

Nyx bagels cost $2.50 each for plain, $3 for flavors including everything, black-and-white sesame, cheddar-scallion, “super seed” and gojuchang black sesame. Nyx, with a tagline of “A Scratch Baking Co.,” also offers muffins ($3$4), macarons ($2.50) and cookies ($2). Its products are made exclusively with organic flour grown and milled in New York.

Pickup is at 553 Clinton Ave.; delivery, within a 10-mile radius, costs $10. Both are available before 11 a.m. Tuesday to Friday. Order via Nyx’s website, nyxbaking.com.

Nyx will move from the Delmar market to the Washington Park Farmers Market in Albany when it opens in July. It will also have a presence at the Guilderland Farmers Market starting in June. Select products from the bakery are available at the Brewtus Roasting coffee shop, 1038 Madison Ave., Albany.

Nyx, named after the Greek goddess of night, is owned by the local chefs Shannon Dowen-ronda and Caitlin Sive, both trained at SUNY Schenectady’s culinary program and with more than a decade of experience in the local restaurant industry.
