407th death reported
Albany County person who died of COVID-19 was in their 50s
Another Albany County resident has died due to complications from COVID -19, the county announced Tuesday.
The victim was a person in their 50s, county Executive Dan Mccoy said.
The death — which is the county’s 407th since the pandemic began — comes as the county reports the highest percentage yet of unvaccinated residents in the hospital being treated for the disease. Of the 35 residents hospitalized with the virus Tuesday, 74 percent were unvaccinated and 26 percent were fully vaccinated, Mccoy said.
“This is the highest percentage yet of unvaccinated individuals in the hospital we’ve seen yet in our weekly reports,” he said. “Between these numbers and the loss of another county resident to the virus overnight, we’re reminded how important it is to get the shot to protect ourselves and loved ones from serious illness.”
On Monday night, Schenectady County announced a man in his 50s and a man in his 70s who had COVID-19 also died. The county
did not say their vaccination status.
Mccoy also provided an update on the vaccination status of Albany County residents who recently tested positive for coronavirus. Of the 622 new infections identified and analyzed by the county Department of Health between Sept. 26 and this past Saturday, 294 were vaccinated, 284 were not and a vaccination status could not be confirmed for 44 others, the county said.
Vaccine status is self-reported and provided without regard to the timing of administration or onset of illness, the county noted.
