Ichabod Crane takes ‘B’

Sectional crown fourth straight for Riders’ tennis team

In a final featuring two undefeated teams, Ichabod Crane crushed Greenville 7-0 to win its fourth consecutiv­e Class B girls’ tennis championsh­ip.

The Riders (15-0) also claimed their third consecutiv­e Colonial Council title.

Riders No. 1 Elise Brennan topped Greenville’s Bryn Fitzmauric­e, 6-2, 6-0. The Riders’ 2-4 players, Gianna Sandagato, Samantha Lantzy and

Maya Brennan, did not drop a game in winning their matches while Zoe Geiger won by forfeit.

The Brennans, Fitzmauric­e, Sandagato, Lantzy and Geiger finished a combined 70-5 in their matches this year. Lantzy and Maya Brennan won all 15 of their matches.

Ichabod Crane will face the Class C/D champion to determine who gets a spot in the state tournament.

More girls’ tennis: Queensbury and Burnt Hills will meet in the Class A final. Queensbury topped Albany Academy, 6-1, while Burnt Hills edged Holy Names 4-3 in the other semifinal.

Boys’ soccer: Xavier Deluca scored six minutes into the game and finished with two goals and an assist to spark Scotia to a 3-1 win over Broadalbin-perth in a Foothills Council game. Zach Place made six saves in the win. Kofi Jack also scored for the Tartans. Nick Bianco scored for the Patriots. ... Greenville scored all its goals in the second half to pull away for a 3-0 win over Catskill in the semifinals of the Patroon Conference Tournament. Ben Reinhard scored two goals in the win. Greenville will play Maple Hill or Coxsackie in the final on Friday.

Girls’ soccer: Emma Willard nipped visiting Cambridge 2-1 in a Wasaren League contest. Bailey Leone-levine and Grace Pierson had the goals for the Jaspers while Samantha Crandall scored for Cambridge.
