BITE-SIZED
Post, the latest incarnation of a basement space on Lark Street in Albany that has been a wine bar for 19 years, is permanently closed.
It stopped serving a few weeks ago, ostensibly on a temporary basis, but the owners have decided to shutter Post, retaining the space and redeveloping it into a different concept, according to Nick Warchol, who opened Post in May 2019 with partners Craig Dutra and Noah Bondy, with whom he owns the D.P. Dough calzone franchise in Albany, and a fourth partner, Aaron Wilson.
They also recently opened the quick-serve Herbie's Burgers concept across the street from Post at 196 Lark, former home to the delis Frankie's and Cantor's. After Herbie's is solidly established, Warchol said, perhaps starting in November, attention will turn to the new identity for the Post space. He declined to specify what it will be, saying only that it is a "new idea that will be better."
The space became a restaurant in 2002, when the owner of
200-202 Lark St. renovated two adjoining basements to create Antica Enoteca Old World Wine Bar, complete with rear courtyard. It later was the Wine Bar and Bistro for seven and a half years and, more recently, Lark & Lily Wine Bar & Kitchen for 20 months and Mio Posto for less than 16 months.
New bar in River St. Market
Dave Camacho, who owns Risotto restaurant in Albany, has opened a bar called The Fox and the Burn in the River Street Market food hall at 433 River St., Troy. It adjoins Hummicidal, a Mediterranean-themed eatery also owned by Camacho. The co-owner of The Fox and the Burn is Hannah Van Buren, general manager of Risotto.
A menu of wings and pizza is being developed for The Fox and the Burn, and brunch service will start Oct. 23, Camacho said in an announcement of the new venture. In the meantime, customers may order from Hummicidal or the other restaurants in River Street Market: Papa Cicco’s Pinsa Romana, Maria’s, Prime Burger and Shakehouse and Taco Libre.
The Fox and the Burn is described as having a "full bar (with) craft cocktails, local brews and wine."
Hours are 11 a.m. to close Wednesday to Friday, 4 p.m. to close Saturday. closed Sunday to Tuesday. There are front and rear entrances to River Street Market, with free parking on the side and front of the building.
The bar's name was inspired by a song Camacho heard his 5-year-old son singing. He assumed the boy had heard it somewhere but, after hunting online, he determined his son had made up both lyrics and melody. The Fox and the Burn sounded like a traditional pub name or the title of an Aesob fable, Camacho said, and he is encouraging customers to come up with a story about the name.
