Ichabod Crane claims top seed

Win over Ravena gives Riders edge in Colonial Council

Ichabod Crane secured the top seed in the upcoming Colonial Council tournament after beating Ravena 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 on Thursday.

Emma Scheitinge­r and Maddie Kelley paced the Riders (12-1) with seven kills each. Hannah Frances chipped in three kills of her own. Setter Delaney Moore had nine assists and Piper Dekraai added four aces in the win.

“We were very hot and cold tonight,” said Ichabod Crane coach Adam Vooris. “Fortunatel­y we were able to heat up at the right times to find success and get the win.”

Led by Ally Flint, the Riders jumped out to big leads in the first two sets. Flint had a seven-point run at one point, including three straight aces.

More girls’ volleyball: Carlie Rzeszotars­ki had 17 kills and four aces to lead Burnt Hills to a 25-7, 25-10, 25-7 win over Saratoga. Callie Chevalier added eight kills and 12 digs and Kiera Hartpence had 12 digs for the Spartans (20-3, 10-0). Lily Yefimenko (5-5) led the Blue Streaks with 10 digs . ... Sophia Rogers had 10 kills, three blocks and two aces to spark Broadalbin­perth to a straight sets win (25-12, 25-11, 25-15) over Johnstown. Sami Westfall had 10 kills and Haley Tomlinson added five aces and 12 service points for the Patriots (11-1, 10-1). Isabella Lewis had five service points, two aces, two kills and six digs for the Lady Bills (4-9, 4-6) . ... Columbia topped Guilderlan­d in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 2520) to improve to 11-1 overall and 9-1 in the Suburban Council. Arricca Silliman led the Blue Devils with 19 assists and six kills while Allison Silliman added six kills. Miranda King added five kills and 10 digs and Mikayla Kendrick chipped in three kills and six aces.

Girls’ tennis: Rebecca Dudley, Meghan Poirier and Gianna Leggieri won their singles matches, and Burnt Hills swept the doubles matches to win the Class A title with a 5-2 victory over Queensbury. ... Schoharie captured the Class C championsh­ip after a 5-1 win over Chatham. Alaina Sholtes, Misha Cater-smith and Allison Gallagher all won their matches in decisive fashion.
