Mcnutt’s hat trick lifts Mechanicvi­lle to 5th straight title

Mechanicvi­lle clinched its fifth consecutiv­e Wasaren League title with a 9-3 win over host Tamarac on Friday in a boys’ soccer clash.

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 5-2 halftime advantage and coasted to the finish to pick up the win. Colin Mcnutt scored three goals and Wyqie Aguda and Andrew Kraszewski added two goals apiece to lead Mechanicvi­lle.

Rocco Dicarlo scored two goals for Tamarac.

More boys’ soccer: Galway held off a late rally by Fonda to earn a 2-1 Western Athletic Conference home win. Chris Maher gave the Eagles the early lead when he scored from 25 yards out midway through the first half. Galway extended its lead five minutes into the second half when Noah Montague played a through ball to Casey Clarke, who scored from the left side of the penalty area. Ryan Pudney made three saves to earn the win . ... Andrew Kusek scored all three goals for Schalmont in a 3-0 victory over rival Mohonasen in a Colonial Council playoff matchup. Aidyn Soehl and Aidan Tidings each had an assist and Christian Tortorici stopped eight shots to earn the shutout in goal for the Sabres . ... Queensbury captured the Foothills Council title by finishing in a 1-1 tie with Schuylervi­lle. The game was called in overtime due to darkness. Ian Rathbun gave Queensbury the lead with 25 minutes left, but Chris Jones tied the game with 16 minutes left on a corner kick.

Girls’ soccer: Emma Spadaro scored in the first half off an assist from Anna Miesenberg, and Hannah French made five saves as Galway topped Fonda 1-0 in a WAC game . ... Anna Nichols scored as Holy Names captured the Colonial Council Tournament with a 1-0 win over Cohoes. Sofia Pantoja made three saves to earn the shutout.

Field hockey: Karleigh Mirable had two goals and an assist to lead Shaker past Niskayuna 5-1 in a Suburban Council contest. The Blue Bison grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first half and coasted to the win. Katie Hanrahan also had two goals for Shaker.
