Pita scores winner

Corinth victorious in Class C playoff

Sarah Pita scored a breakaway goal with less than 18 minutes left to propel host Corinth to a 1-0 win over Duanesburg in a Class C girls’ soccer playoff game.

Duanesburg keeper Morgan Krounse made the initial save, but Pita knocked in the rebound.

Krounse finished with nine saves. Lorelei Peterson made three saves to earn the shutout. The Tomahawks (9-3-4) outshot the Purple Knights 12-4.

More girls’ soccer: Addi Perry finished with a hat trick in leading Chatham to a 4-0 win over Middleburg­h in a Class C firstround game . ... Ashlee Stevens scored a goal and Claire Curvin made 17 saves to spark Berneknox to a 1-0 win over Hoosic Valley in other Class C action. Riley Caiazza made 21 saves for Hoosic Valley.

Boys’ soccer: Jake Afsarkeshm­iri headed home a cross from Vinnie Maccharulo at the 28:15 mark and assisted on Jack Grant’s insurance goal in the second half as Queensbury topped Troy 3-0 in Class A play. Gavin Kelly also scored for the No. 4 Spartans (10-5-2). Sean Seeley blanked Troy, making three saves . ... Kofi Jack and Xavier Deluca each scored four goals as No. 11 Scotia jumped out to a big lead and routed No. 6 seed Lansingbur­gh 10-1 in the Class A playoffs . ... Vinny Davis broke a scoreless stalemate in the second half and Ben Reinhard scored an insurance goal as Greenville pulled away for a 2-0 win over Glens Falls in Class B.

Field hockey: Lyric Kriner scored with 11 minutes left in the game to give Hoosick Falls the lead for good as the No. 2 Panthers beat No. 7 Corinth 3-1 in the Class C quarterfin­als. Megan Marcoux gave Hoosick Falls the lead in the second quarter, but Emily Mattison tied it early in the second half. Emma Mccart also scored for Hoosick Falls (16-1). Marissa Landry made two saves for Hoosick Falls.
