LAKE PLACID — John Joseph "Jack" Leonard, 85 of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021.

He was born on June 6, 1936, in Albany to the late Francis Leonard and Josephine Leonard. Jack graduated from Philip Schuyler Senior High School in 1954, where he played football and then went onto to meet the love of his life Jacquelin Reynolds. The two instilled the love of camping and travel in both of their children at a young age.

Jack was a longtime resident of Westerlo. He worked many years for Ironworkers Local #12 and retired from the New York State Deparment of Transportation. Upon retirement, Jack was a dedicated volunteer at Assateague State Park in Maryland and throughout various state parks in the state of Florida. He loved traveling and during his last 25 years he traveled all 49 contiguous states.

Jack is survived by his two children, Joe Leonard and Jacquelin (Dianne) Leonard; grandchildren, Daci (Mike) Shenfield and Joseph (Abby) Leonard; greatgrandchildren, Maeve and Carson Leonard; sister, Marion Dodge; brother-inlaw, Douglas (Rosetta) Reynolds and several special nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacquelin D. Leonard; and his daughterin-law, Tina Leonard; and brothers, Francis Leonard and Robert Leonard.

Jack thought of family, friends and strangers first, always lending a helping hand when needed. His genuine care to help others will always be remembered by his family and friends.

There will be no funeral service. A celebration of Jack’s life will be scheduled for the spring in Albany and/ or Assateague, and details will be provided at a later date.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation of your time to help a local charity or an individual be made in Jack’s memory.
