Blue Devils sweep Dutch

No. 2 Columbia moves to semifinals with win

Second seed Columbia topped No. 7 Guilderlan­d in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-6, in a Class AA girls’ volleyball sectional quarterfin­al match Thursday in East Greenbush.

Miranda King led the Blue Devils with six kills and two blocks, while Leah Phillips added seven kills and one block. Arricca Silliman chipped in with 18 assists, two kills and two aces and Cara Lallier had nine aces and six digs.

Lauren Hoyle had three aces, two blocks, six kills and six digs for the Lady Dutch.

More girls’ volleyball: In other Class AA playoff action, Kasia Barletta reached 1,000 career digs in leading Shenendeho­wa to a 25-15, 25-7, 25-8 win over Shaker. Barletta had five service points and 21 digs in the match . ... Ballston Spa rallied from two sets down to beat Saratoga, 23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22. Sarah Bozzo had 45 assists for the Scotties (8-6). Lili Yefimenko had three aces, two kills, 18 digs and one assist for Saratoga (8-6) . ... Sophia Hallenbeck and Kate Mcdonough both had 10 kills and Mary Fitzsimmon­s added six kills and 19 digs to spark South Glens Falls to a 25-15, 2520, 25-14 win over Scotia in a Class A sectional quarterfin­al match. Haley Corso chipped in with 35 assists and 11 digs and Cassie Ogburn had 12 digs for the Bulldogs (11-4). Gabriela Harrigan led the Tartans with two kills and 14 digs . ... Top seed Broadalbin cruised into the Class B semifinals by beating No. 8 Lansingbur­gh, 25-8, 25-15, 25-9. Sophia Rogers had 13 kills and three blocks for the Patriots.

Cross country: Warrensbur­g sophomore Brody Olden won the Adirondack League Championsh­ip held on the 5k course at Queensbury with a time of 18 minutes, 10.62 seconds. Liam Fahey Stack and Oliver Herrick finished fifth and sixth to lead Lake George to the team title. Logan Reynolds (Hartford) was second and David Anderson (North Warren) was third. Alyssa Freeguard of Argyle won the girls’ race in 21:14.25 while Rylee Dunbar of Corinth finished second in 21:56.09. Lake George and Hadley-luzerne tied for the team title. Katrin Schreiner (Hadleyluze­rne), Brynn Tyler (Hartford) was third.

Girls’ soccer: Jordan Deninno and Natalie Caponera each had a goal and an assist as Opppenheim-st. Johnsville beat Northville 2-1 in the Class D semifinals.

Field hockey: Chelsea King scored two goals, including the game-winner in the first overtime, to spark Guilderlan­d to a 2-1 win over Saratoga in the Class A semifinals.
