Rangers shut out the Blue Jackets
Chris Kreider scored two power-play goals, Igor Shesterkin stopped 31 shots for his third career shutout and first this season, and the New York Rangers got their first home win with a 4-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
Ryan Strome and Alexis Lafreniere also scored, and Adam Fox and Artemi Panarin each had three assists to help New York get its fifth win in six games. Shesterkin had 12 saves in the first period, seven in the second and 12 in the third to improve to 4-1-1 with a 1.81 goalsagainst average.
Hurricanes 6, Blackhawks 3:
Antti Raanta made 23 saves and was a winner in his Carolina debut as the Hurricanes scored four goals in the first period in a victory over winless Chicago, adding to their best start in franchise history.
Capitals 2, Coyotes 0:
John Carlson scored a long-awaited power-play goal, Alex Ovechkin added an empty-netter and Washington beat Arizona, handing the Coyotes their eighth consecutive loss to start the season.
Panthers 3, Red Wings 2 (OT): Aleksander Barkov scored in overtime and Florida — playing a day after coach Joe Quenneville resigned amid a sex scandal — beat Detroit to run their season-opening winning streak to eight.
Golden Knights 5, Ducks 4 (SO): Nic Roy and Evgenii Dadonov scored in the shootout and Vegas beat Anaheim.
Senators 4, Stars 1: Josh Norris score two goals in his U.S. NHL debut, and Ottawa snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Dallas.
