Wolves top Argyle for Class D title

Mason Snell scored two goals to help Oppenheim-ephratah-st. Johnsville shut down Argyle 3-0 on Tuesday to claim the Section II Class D boys’ soccer championsh­ip in Colonie.

Andrew Snell (Mason’s cousin) put the Wolves out in front 1-0 before Mason Snell sent home his first goal of the day to give OESJ a 2-0 halftime advantage. Mason Snell closed the scoring and sealed the win in the second half with his second goal of the game.

The Wolves advance to the state playoffs and will take on Section IX champion Mount Academy either Saturday or Sunday at Newburgh Free Academy in the state regional round.

Girls’ soccer: Schoharie clinched the Section II Class C championsh­ip with a 3-2 win over Waterford. Katie Krohn scored twice, including the game winner, which snapped a 2-2 deadlock with 12 minutes left in the second half. Haley Drinon scored the opening goal for Schoharie while Addyson Galuski and Natalie Rich had the goals for the Fordians. Schoharie moves on to the state playoffs and will take on Section VII champion Ausable Valley, which topped Section X champion Madrid-waddington, 8-1 on Tuesday night. Schoharie plays Ausable Valley at noon on Saturday in the regional round in Mechanicvi­lle . ... Schalmont’s season came to an end with a heartbreak­ing 3-2 loss to Section III’S Skaneatele­s in sudden death overtime in its New York state Class B sub-regional round contest in Chittenang­o. Simone Cassano had a goal for the Sabres . ... In a Class A sub-regional game, the New Hartford offense erupted in the second half to close out Queensbury’s season and win 6-0. The Section III champions held a slim 1-0 halftime lead before scoring five goals in the final half to put away the Spartans.
