Spartans sweep into final
Rzeszotarski leads Burnt Hills in semifinal win over Averill Park
The Burnt Hills girls’ volleyball team advanced to its 24th consecutive sectional final following a 3-0 sweep of Averill Park on Wednesday in their Section II Class A semifinal matchup at Broadalbin-perth.
The Lady Spartans won by scores of 25-5, 25-7 and 25-15 to advance. Carlie Rzeszotarski had 20 kills and Callie Chevalier
added 11 kills and nine digs for Burnt Hills, which improved to 15-0.
More girls’ volleyball: Kasia Barletta had 13 service points, four aces and 15 digs to spark Shenendehowa to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-5 win over Ballston Spa in the Class AA semifinals. Reagan Ennist added five service points, 14 kills, five digs and three blocks and Emma Pal chipped in four service points, two aces and 29 assists. The Lady Plainsmen will take on Columbia, which defeated Colonie in its semifinal contest, for the Class AA championship on Friday . ... Undefeated Galway cruised into the Class D championship match after beating No. 4 Hartford in straight sets 25-17, 25-12, 25-10.
Amber Kolpakas led the Eagles (15-0) with 14 kills and 18 digs while Julia Reedy added 13 kills and 10 digs. Jayden Devellis (24 digs) and Sadie Underwood (six kills, five blocks) also played key roles for Galway.
Boys’ soccer: East Syracuse-minoa ended Averill Park’s season with a 2-0 decision in their Class A State Subregional playoff contest. The Section III champions scored two goals in the first half and held the Warriors offense in check to advance to the regional round.
Football: Ichabod Crane defeated Corinth-hadley Luzerne, 33-0, in a crossover contest. The Riders set a program record for most wins in one season, closing the year at 5-4.
